National Service Scheme (NSS)
An Introduction

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Established in 1969—the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi—the scheme aims to foster social responsibility, leadership, and community engagement among students of higher education institutions.
Through various outreach activities such as community development, health awareness campaigns, environmental conservation drives, and disaster relief efforts, NSS volunteers contribute meaningfully to society while gaining experiential learning and civic awareness. The motto “Not Me, But You” reflects the spirit of selfless service and empathy that the program seeks to instill in youth.
Participation in NSS not only enhances a student’s holistic development but also cultivates values of cooperation, discipline, and commitment to national progress. At Rama Devi Bajla Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the NSS unit actively engages in diverse initiatives that bridge academics with real-world impact.
